Honeymoons and anniversaries

A trip for two is decided by four things, and price is not one of them.

The room you sleep in, the number of times you pack a bag, the month you travel, and what the first day costs you in sleep. Those four decide whether the trip feels like a honeymoon or like a transfer with a beach at the end. This page sets out how each one works on the six destinations we plan, with the top published band for each so you can see what the best version costs before you ask. Planning stays free.

Four things decide whether a trip for two works. We settle all four before anyone looks at a price, because a cheap room in the right month beats a good room in the wrong one.

The grade of the room

On a beach island the room is the trip. The difference between a garden-facing room and a sea-facing one is often the difference between a honeymoon and a week in a corridor, and it is priced as such.

We show you the grade bands side by side and name what each one buys: the view, the adults-only wing, the plunge pool, the spa credit. You pick the one you can defend.

One base or two

Two bases look romantic on paper and cost you a morning each time you move. One base buys slower days. Two bases buy variety; the honest price of the variety is a packing morning and a transfer.

For a week, we default to one base with day trips, and we say so. If you want the two stop shape, we build it with the transfer in the middle of the trip, not on the first or the last day.

The month you travel

The same seven nights cost materially more in the school holidays, at Easter, and over the December run. On the Indian Ocean the cyclone months carry a different risk again, and the safari peak in September and October is the busiest week of the year for beds.

The when-to-go grid on the home page carries the month by month read for all six. We quote the month you chose, and we tell you when shifting a week would change the number.

What the first day costs

A direct flight from Johannesburg lands you in the afternoon with an evening left. A two leg routing spends the first day in transit and the first night asleep.

Zanzibar is about three and a half hours direct from Johannesburg. The other routings are longer. We show the arrival time before the price, because arriving at midnight on day one is not the same product as arriving at two in the afternoon.

Which of the six suits which kind of trip

Six destinations are on the site. For two travellers they are not interchangeable. This is the honest read, including the parts that need planning around, and the top published band from each destination page.

The six destinations, read for two travellers
Destination The shape Plan around Top published band
Mauritius One flight, one resort, seven nights, an adults-only wing available Cyclone risk in the first quarter. School-holiday weeks carry the highest surcharge of the six from R 38,500 pp, 7 nights, five-star all inclusive
Zanzibar Stone Town for two nights, then five on the north coast The long rains from March into May. The tide sets the beach hours, so check it against the days you want from R 34,900 pp, 7 nights, five-star half board
Kruger Three or four nights at a Sabi Sands lodge, two drives a day It is an early-start trip, not a lying-in trip. The five-star option buys a private vehicle from R 31,900 pp, 4 nights, five-star with private vehicle
Dubai A four-night short break, city and beach in one June to September is too hot for the outdoor days. It is a winter and shoulder-season trip from R 24,600 pp, 4 nights, five-star Marina or beachfront
Cape Town and the Winelands Five nights, city and wine country, a private guide on the days that matter The wind and the weather turn fast. Keep the mountain day flexible to the forecast from R 24,000 pp, 5 nights, five-star with private guide days
Garden Route A six-night drive, two nights per stop, a driver-guide if neither of you wants the wheel It moves every second day. That is the trip, but it is not a rest from R 16,900 pp, 6 nights, four-star with a private driver-guide

Every number above is the top band already published on that destination's page, per person sharing, and it is an indicative planning range until Lizanne confirms the live price and availability in writing. The destination pages carry the night-by-night shape and the three grade bands for each.

What the First booking adds

First is the tier the packages page lists for premium and honeymoon trips. It is sold per booking at R 2,999, not per traveller, so it covers both of you.

Meet and greet at the airport

A contracted provider at OR Tambo meets you at the terminal and walks the check-in and the security queue with you. Where an arrival airport provides the same, it is arranged at both ends.

Two lounge passes

One per traveller on the outbound, so the wait before the flight is a chair and a plug point rather than a queue at a gate.

The welcome basket on arrival

Sourced and fulfilled by Lizanne on her own cost line, built for two. It arrives with you, not at the hotel desk, and it is the part guests photograph.

A number that answers on the day

The 24/7 emergency contact is the line that matters when a flight is cancelled at 22:00 on the last night. It is part of First, and it is the reason the tier exists.

First sits alongside Economy, Business and Captain's Circle. The full inclusion list, and what each tier costs, is on the packages page.

What to put in the brief

Send these six lines

  • The destination, or the two you are choosing between.
  • The dates, or the month you are working around.
  • How many nights you can take.
  • The room grade you want, or a ceiling you will not cross.
  • Whether you want one base or two.
  • Anything the property should know: an anniversary date, a dietary need, a late arrival.

What we check before you commit

The name on the booking has to match the passport you will travel on. If a passport is being reissued after a name change, book in the name on the passport you will carry, not the one you have now.

Passport validity and blank pages are checked against your destination's own rule, because the rules differ and they change. That check happens before you pay, not at the airport.

Nothing on this page is a quote. The live price and availability come from the trade, and Lizanne confirms them with you in writing before anything is charged.

Start with the dates and the two of you.

Two lines are enough to start. The rest we ask as we go. There is no form to finish and nothing to pay to plan.

Plan the trip for two on WhatsApp

  • Free to the traveller.

The planning lane costs you nothing. A plan that never becomes a booking costs nothing either.

  • One named human.

Lizanne van Niekerk plans it and books it. She is the person you message on the day of travel.

  • Indicative until confirmed.

Every number before the booking is a planning range. The binding price is confirmed in writing.
